Why Start a Startup Marketing Blog?
Hi. Welcome to our “Startup Marketing” blog. We’re glad you’ve joined us.
Together, week-by-week, we plan to go on a journey with you that will investigate all aspects of marketing for startups. This will be a platform for us to give you our thoughts about marketing approaches old and new, discuss what techniques are out there for all of us to use, and learn from you, what you think.
We want to create a learning environment and start a conversation with you about effective marketing techniques, to complement the meet-ups that we set up from time to time.
What it’s not, is a weekly “puff piece” to advertise our services. We just want to make that absolutely clear from the get-go.
So why should we start this conversation?
Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We’re Billy Cina and Amit Lavi. Together, we lead Marketing Envy, and we’re committed to helping innovative startups . . . . start up.
We’ve got over 20 years of combined experience in tech and startup marketing, social media marketing and online advertising in both B2B and B2C environments internationally.
We’re crazy about online marketing strategy and implementation, demand generation campaigns, sales optimization, multi-channel PPC integration, product optimization and growth hacking.
We love nothing more than leading exciting companies towards fulfilling their marketing goals. And we think that the best way to do that is to share our knowledge.
You’ve heard the saying, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” Well that’s our philosophy. We believe that the biggest value is gained from sharing knowledge, and that’s what this blog is all about.
OK, so what’s the focus, and why startups?
Well, we’re passionate about marketing, and particularly marketing for startups. We love to follow the constantly changing ways that innovative companies reach their customers.
We’ve found that startups embrace new ideas and techniques really fast. And they gather and analyze results relatively quickly. It’s really satisfying to see this in action.
Also, startups face the biggest challenges in terms of budget and resources, which means they have a special set of requirements that we like to address. You can really see how much difference a clever strategy can make when you’re working with startups. That’s why we love them so much.
Let’s consider for a minute the tech-hubs of Israel, London and Berlin, as they offer particularly good examples of the huge growth in startup activity. In 2014 alone, Israel nearly doubled the value of its high-tech company exits compared to 2013 .
In London and the UK, 2014 was a record-breaking year for startups there . And Berlin outstrips London. During 2013, According to The New York Times, Berlin tech startups raised a combined $1.1 billion in 2014, a 140 percent increase on 2013 .
So we can conclude that in many respects, startups in hubs like these form a dynamic test-bed for the latest strategies, tactics and most successful techniques that will eventually become standard. Initiating and participating in this process with them is what we find so fascinating and rewarding, and it’s what we want to talk about with you each week, in our blog. We’ll be asking:
• What techniques and tactics work and why?
• What case studies from different companies can teach us?
• What, when, how and why should certain stages happen in a startup?
Doubtless the list will expand as the blog proceeds and the conversation with you grows, and we’d really love to hear what you think, what questions or examples you have and what solutions you advocate.
So let’s talk. We’re looking forward to blogging with you.
All the best,
Billy Cina and Amit Lavi
